The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R Wont Have Manual

Volkswagen’s 2025 Golf GTI made a brief appearance at CES in Las Vegas last month, but its true debut happened shortly after in Europe. Although the US version has yet to be seen, a disguised prototype made its way to the F.A.T. Ice Race Aspen in Colorado. Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that the six-speed manual gearbox will no longer be an option after the 2024 model year. Volkswagen of America Product Communications Specialist Jerohn Anderson has stated, “I can confirm that the manual transmission will not be available for the Golf GTI and Golf R after MY2024.”

New Volkswagen Golf R Changes

VW’s highly anticipated revised Golf R has yet to be revealed, but the good news is that the world premiere of the new Golf R is set to take place this summer in 2024. One of the biggest questions surrounding the Golf R is id the range will receive a power boost. In Europe, both the 2023 Golf R333 and the 20 Years Edition from the previous year get up to 328 horsepower. If VW wants to unleash more power for the standard Golf R, we can expect an increase of about 13 horsepower.

These updates mark the end of an era for GTI and R models powered by combustion engines. VW plans to replace the eighth-generation Golf with an all-electric model, signaling a shift towards electric vehicles. The famous GTI and R versions will still live on in this new electric era in a different way, with a revised “GTI” logo featuring a thunderbolt replacing the last letter.
