The highest SEL R-Line trim for the 2026 Tiguan will feature a more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will be able to produce 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This is a noticeable improvement over the base engine, which only produces 201 horsepower. The 2026 Tiguan also gets standard all-wheel drive.

This improved performance compared with the base engine also allows a larger turbocharger that enables higher boost pressure. Internally, the engine benefits from stronger pistons and connecting rods, as well as a nitrided crankshaft. Volkswagen also made sure that the engine has oil cooling for the pistons and a variable valve lift on both the intake and exhaust sides. You can expect Miller-cycle technology to help improve fuel economy compared to a conventional four-cycle engine, while still using traditional gasoline.

Advanced technology has always been a staple of the VW Tiguan, and that is still the case for the 2026 model year. Inside, you’ll find a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system as standard. A Driving Experience Dial is located in the center console so drivers can easily adjust the volume as well as the new Atmospheres feature, which combines synchronized ambient lighting and audio settings.
